After rolling the clay into a large flat slab, I cut it into squares. After they have dried to a leather hard state, I incise the designs into each tile.
I allow the tiles to dry while sandwiched between sheets of drywall, which keeps them flat and helps remove moisture.
The tiles require approximately two weeks to dry completely.
Once the tiles are completely dry they must be bisque fired before glazing begins.
I make tests for all the glazes I use. It allows me to see what the colors will look like after firing.
